Voter registration

Voting is the greatest power you posses. Votes control politicians, politicians control policies, policies control your life. If you want to have a say in how you live, don’t stand aside and let other decide about your life for you! Register to vote!

To start with, to be eligible to vote in UK, you have to:

  • be 18 years of age or over on polling day (but only 16 to register!)
  • be resident in the UK
  • be a British citizen, a qualifying Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of the Republic of Ireland

  • Remember! Students may register at both their home address and their college or university address. It is not an offence to register twice, but you may only vote once in any election.

If you are not sure whether you are registered or not, the Electoral Commission can not tell you if you are registered to vote, you must contact your local electoral registration office. You can find the contact details for your local electoral registration office here.
